1983 BMW R 80 from Netherlands

Summary:

A pleasant bike to ride

Faults:

One mayor breakdown: crown gear (cardan connection in rear wheel).

Further rather nothing, only maintenance issues: a new dynamo, tires, carburator seals, brakes.

General Comments:

A pleasant bike to ride; a fine one to work on; a beautiful machine to look at, a brilliant one to listen to.

1990 BMW R 80 from New Zealand

Summary:

The R 80 is a grand do all motorcycle!

Faults:

Gearbox bearings replaced at 45000Km.

Speedo stopped working at about 54000Km.

Exhaust needs replacing, but is still usable.

A few age related minor niggles.

General Comments:

A good fun motorcycle to ride and own.

Cheap to run compared to some modern machines; cheap tyres, that last the distance, 350Km+ per tank of gas etc...

A good all rounder!!
