1997 Yamaha XJ900S review from Australia
"An outstanding all-rounder that responds well to rider input"
What things have gone wrong with the motorcycle?
The exhaust downpipes are the only area of real concern: they are showing surface rusting -- probably because they sit directly behind the (unprotected) front wheel, and get water and anything else on the road flung at them.
There is some dulling and minor pitting on the aluminium coating on the engine.
General comments?
This bike is quick when needed. It rolls on in any gear, and is very forgiving if you're a gear too high.
The seating position is very relaxed and comfortable, with perhaps just a touch too much weight on my hands for really extended cruising.
The 24L tank is a real bonus. At ~5L per 100 km in the country, it lasts longer than my backside or bladder do!
"Bum fatigue" sets in after about 1.5 hours at a stretch; then about an hour after the first break.
Two-up riding alters the bike's general balance very little.
