Rev cable.
I own an SRX400 grey import, which was fairly cheap to buy.
I love its simplicity. Its single cylinder 4 stroke engine feels unburstable. It's in good condition and I think it will run for years to come.
Its only fault is it's kick start only. You need a good right leg.
It's based on retro cafe racing bikes. I like its style.
The auto decompression system makes kicking that engine over easy. Even my worn srx400 (1986) starts 1st kick, usually!
Starting is only a problem if you flood her, the plug gets fouled or there is no petrol in the tank. The right technique is to turn the engine over a few times, no choke or throttle. Then kick hardish with full choke and again no throttle until she catches! Easy!
I'm putting an electric start XT600 engine in, and the kick-start is going to be the thing I miss most.
I had a very ratty SRX400, but it cost me less than £200 to get on the road. Used for a year with minimal maintenance and I loved it!
Nice styling and enjoyed looking over that big headlamp when going along.
Seat was a bit hard but comfortable otherwise. Just make sure you carry a spare plug and spanner, a long one, as it did like to eat them up. Not too difficult to start.
Moved abroad so it had to go, otherwise I would have kept it for good.
Hi, I have just brought a 1986 SRX4. I think it is the nicest bike I have owned, and I love being on the motorbike. I ride it to work everyday, and I ride it at least 100 miles on Saturdays, and the same on Sundays, and it has not let me down.
The only thing I'm stuck on (if anyone can help) is the red light on the control panel, which has speed written under it and lights up at about 53mph. If anyone knows what this is, I would be very grateful to know.
Many thanks.
