The only problem I was with the charging system. Sometimes the battery was dead when I went to start it... But hey, that's why it had a kick-starter that worked like a charm!
Great bike for dependability. I want another one. I currently own a 2000 ZRX1100 and a 2000 V-Star 650, but I still want to find another one to restore.
I myself never had issues with the seat, but then again, I have a small butt.
I was once 30 miles out of town, noticed the oil pressure light came on, so I stopped to check my oil... there was none. Bone dry!!! But it still made it home and ran like a champ after...
I can't agree more about the 1970s CB bikes. I have a 1975 CB750 and have had more fun on that bike than most others that I have owned. I just picked up a 1974 CB550 a couple weeks ago, but my financial situation won't allow me to keep it.
If you're interested it is listed on ebay for another 8 days. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-CB-Vintage-1974-Honda-CB550-FOUR-Motorcylce-NICE-LOOK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ80647QQitemZ250095670711QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
I'd love to keep her, but if I want to keep my other Honda (750), I have to sacrifice the 550. You're right about the reliability though - the 550 starts on the first kick every time! My 750 won't even do that for me.
Anyway, I'd like to see someone put some good miles on this baby, so check out the auction.
Troy.
