04 Star 1100 Classic for California:
Great bike! I think the bike is smooth. I don't have all the vibration I keep reading about. My stock 04 saddle (classic) is very spongy and fits my... seat just fine. Rode it for about five hours with no problem (did stop for gas n a smoke).
Complaints: Oil filter location... but this makes me get down and take a hard look at the bike every 4K to 5K miles.
"Tappet" noise after 3k miles... heard it is typical.
Oil Light intermittently lights while oil level is good... notable (I think) is the oil light issue started immediately after I changed to synth oil... coincidence?
And I too keep looking for 6th gear...
TO THE AIS REMOVAL CHIRP GUY:: look on Ebay for the correct type AIS plugs that prevent the chirp. I just ordered some, it's a bummer you did not do some looking around before installing the barrons plugs because now it's going to be hard to get them out. The chirp comes from a loss of space in the compression chamber believe it or not, weird huh.
I love my V Star 1100, although I find myself trying to find that 6th gear also. I have been looking at all the forward controls and I found some for less than 400 bucks. That's my next purchase, I already ordered a Mustang seat and I can't wait for it to get here..
Thanks, Ron.
I just got my first bike! An 1100 V Star and I LOVE IT!!! The only thing that I can see that will be a problem is I won't stop riding it. Which is no problem at all! I love it, and my dad who is a Harley man said he would rather have my bike any day.
I have had it for a a little over a month, and have put over 1200 miles on it. There is a little chirp, but I'll get over that.
