1987 Honda CBR1000F review from United States of America
"Practical yet sport-worthy bike"
What things have gone wrong with the motorcycle?
-- Oil pressure-powered cam chain tensioner is flaky near idle, but with the increase in oil pressure as you rev higher the tensioner does fine. Early oil changes help, too.
-- Previous owner destroyed original engine at 39k miles, purely due to abuse however.
General comments?
The 600+ pound wet weight is actually wonderful for sweeping corners: the bike is very stable.
The factory rear tire size is far too narrow for serious racing application, but can save plenty of money on replacement. Don't look for a hot hole-shot or a nice wheelie with the weight/tire combination, but the bike will certainly not disappoint. Mine will, in fact, pull from 25mph to above 160mph in 6th gear, so bottom and mid-range is wonderful.
On cold days with short trips, mileage has never come below 38mpg, and on long, open road she has achieved a bit over 50mpg!!
So far, so good: this bike is built like a Honda. Better comfort than the average sport-bike, very excellent performance (3.0 second 0-60mph time is very attainable), good fuel economy, and extra-stable handling make this bike a jack of all trades, and a master of a few as well.
