1986 Honda GB500TT

Summary:

Most endearing bike I've ever had

Faults:

Nothing yet, but I am lead to believe that the electric start mechanism will fail.

General Comments:

This was a Japanese domestic production model, which ended up in NZ, and is fitted with a Ducati Desmo type fairing, wire wheels and a single seat - real cafe racer style stuff.

I love singles, and when I saw this bike, I knew we were going to be together forever. Now 23 years later it's in Australia, and despite all the offers I can't part with it.

Australians got a nasty looking XBR 500 with comstar wheels and odd styling, and no value as a classic.

The 500 engine is torquey and economical, and the 175kg weight makes for good handling (after fitting some Konis).

It's a fun ride, even if a bit underpowered.

Honda got this one absolutely right.

Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes
