1994 Suzuki TS185ER

Summary:

A good reliable old bike, a pleasure to ride

Faults:

I have repaired many things on this bike, but the need for most of the repairs was neglect by the previous owner.

General Comments:

After having most of the bike in bits for repair, I've been impressed by the quality of the design and construction. Everything fits together neatly and perfectly. Disassembly and reassembly are as easy as these can be, and present no irritating unnecessary difficulties. Nothing has worn prematurely. Everything now works well.

Its engine performs well for 185ccs. It handles well. At 100 kg (dry) it's lighter than most bikes of similar capacity. The brakes do slow you down somewhat(!).

1992 Suzuki TS185ER

Summary:

Good allround bike

Faults:

So far, so good!!!

Only problem I have had was losing the number plate and rego sticker off the back while riding.

General Comments:

The bike isn't very quick, but it's not made to be.

Very economical, and I love the 2 stroke engine. It

handles really well and would suit a learner.

Very comfortable seating position.

Needs a taller first gear for road work though.

Yeah, these are cool little bikes. You are right, the 1st and second gears are low; first is almost a crawler gear. OK for going along a tight or bumpy trail. Fine on a metal/gravel road.

The earlier pre ER model was a nicer ROAD bike, as the motor really revved out well. Either model was bog reliable.

Lightweight - this puts other bikes to shame. This bike has the speed of a 250, but only 60% of the weight so acceleration is very good, especially if you are a lightweight.

Not suitable for high speed OFF road (MX style) due to the short suspension. Many are bought by farmers for bopping along farm tracks to check on stock etc.
