2001 Ducati 748

Summary:

Unique, fun to ride, best looking bike ever

Faults:

Computer glitch within the first 600 miles caused the bike to run very rich in the midrange. Dealer fixed at no charge.

No other problems.

General Comments:

This Ducati has been an outstanding machine. Handling can best be described with the word telepathic, reliability has been great, and looks are as good as they come on motorcycles.

Ducatis do have some trade offs however. Overall I would say that the maintenance costs are reasonable, but if you compare it to a Honda or a Yamaha it's a bit more expensive to own. Valve adjustment intervals happen every 6000 miles, which is the most expensive part of owning one. Be ready for that expense and you'll be very happy with your purchase. If you aren't ready you will curse each time that 6000 miles turns up on the clock.

Comfort is non-existent, this bike wasn't built for comfort and it's universally recognized that this may be one of the most uncomfortable motorcycles made. That being said, when I hit a good twisty mountain road I don't notice the ergos at all. I'm having the time of my life and the bike is so well balanced that the handling outshines the comfort by a mile.

Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes
