2010 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUI Ultra Classic Electra Glide

Summary:

Good solid bike, that is fun to ride, from a company that has made a lot of improvements

Faults:

Tachometer went out after less than one year. While replaced under warranty, the screws holding the windshield were not tightened down. Lost one screw before I noticed when doing an inspection before a long trip.

Oil reservoir leaked after 18 months. Took it to the dealer again for warranty repair. Said they would need to reorder a new assembly, and would call me when it came in, but never did. I fixed it on my own.

One manufacturer recall. I don't recall what it was for, but took it in to the dealer, and they completed the recall in timely fashion while I waited.

General Comments:

Tire tubes need 90 degree angle valve stems, as they are almost impossible to get to with the factory rims. This is especially true with the back tire.

Would be nice to have the gas tank entry on the right-hand side, rather than the middle. It is impossible to completely fill up the tank as a result. Can be anywhere from a half to a full gallon less than the tank could otherwise handle.

Since the engine is air-cooled, your right leg can get hot in a hurry in the summer. You better buy some leg extenders to create some distance, or some extenders for the footrests. Would be nice to see an aftermarket for a vented chrome piece to put over the pipes, to provide a buffer from the heat.

Styling is great.

Can ride on it for hours, and have ridden 12 hours at a time, stopping only for gas.

Built in the USA and from a US company, so the profits stay in US. Big selling point for me.

If you are going to buy the Classic, step up, pay a little more and get the Ultra Classic for the cruise control, if nothing else.

Also, the security system is not standard, so make sure yours has it if it is something you want.

If you want GPS, get a Ram Mount and buy a Garmin vs. paying twice as much for dealer installed GPS.

There are a lot of metric bikes that are very competitive in terms of price and performance, in this category of bikes.

Summary:

The Ultimate Old Man Bike

Faults:

Have had no problems with this bike.

General Comments:

I love this bike. I had the stage one put on it, and Vance and Hines true duals with Rush Pipes.

The acceleration is quick and very responsive. It has the wider tire on the rear and corners like a dream.

I put a shorter windshield on it, which makes it look better, and it still deflects the wind and bugs. I miss the sound of my Fat Boy, but love the cruise and stereo.

For all the miles I ride, I would suggest this bike to everyone. The only thing I want to change right now is the seat. The stock seat is not bad, but after a long day I prefer a Mustang seat.

The mileage isn't bad for a big bike, around 45, but I was used to 55-60 with my Fat Boy.

Overall, I will stick with my Ultra forever. Love it...
