2003 Honda VTX1800

Summary:

As strong as any Harley, I love it

Faults:

No negatives on the bike so far.

General Comments:

Bike is very fast with much torque.

Rode to Sturgis, 2448 miles, a sweet ride and keeps up with anything on the road.

Handled well in 600 miles of rain in Nebraska.

2003 Honda VTX1800

Summary:

The VTX1800 is an extremely powerful, smooth riding, attractive beast

Faults:

The cam timing was set incorrectly at the factory. I've had no mechanical problems since that was corrected.

The basic black paint seems to be quite inferior. At less than 1,000 miles it was already pitted and showing scratches. I am unable to completely clear the bug spots off the paint. Did they forget the clear coat??

General Comments:

This bike rides like a Cadillac on the highway. Even at high speeds, there is little to no vibration in the rear-view mirrors.

Response is quick for the size of the bike and the power is awesome.

The assisted braking design makes stopping a breeze.

It is top heavy, so it is difficult for me to handle in tight situations. I am short (5'5") and although the seat height is comfortable for me, the handlebars are a bit wide & would be more comfortable if they came back a couple of inches further.

Cosmetically, I think Honda did a fair job with the design of the Retro. The front fender is the only part of the bike that I really don't like.
