2013 Polaris Victory Cross Country Tour

Summary:

Solid, powerful, trustworthy, and extremely roomy

Faults:

I bought this bike from a private seller, so anything adjustable was adjusted to fine tune it to my needs. That included clutch, front brake lever, throttle bar end weight, shift lever, headlight aim, tire pressure, and shock pressure. But all of that is also part of the regular routine.

General Comments:

The motorcycle is better than expected. Some riders, including myself, may need the 2" pullback bars (I'm 5'8" tall). Not a problem, and they don't require new cables to install.

The bags are HUGE. The trunk alone holds my helmet and gloves along with my wife's helmet and gloves with plenty of room to spare. I feel I could take this bike out for a week with my wife and take a change of clothes for every day, and still have room for all of my gear and tow a camper.

Wind management is very good, although an electric windscreen would be welcome and the 4 vent controls are a reach trying to adjust while moving. The lower vents can be managed with your feet once you have a feel for them. Closing the lower vents affects fuel mileage slightly, but there's enough heat to not want to close them until temps drop under 60F.

2014 Polaris Victory Cross Country Tour

Summary:

A great fitting, perfectly engineered, beautiful bike!

Faults:

I have not had any mechanical issues.

General Comments:

This bike is very comfortable to drive, and very comfortable for the passenger. 400-500 mile days on two lane back roads are easy. For colder climates, the heated hand grips and 2 level heated seat are amazing. They extend the riding season by a month on each end of summer. 18" floorboards give you unlimited leg movement for long trips. Adding a set of riding pegs makes it better, allowing for some lateral movement of your thighs and knees.

The only negative I have with this bike is the "loose" feeling it has when riding 2 up with loaded saddle bags and trunk. Low speed (parking lot/gas station, etc..) turning and handling are impaired due to the amount of weight distributed to the rear of the bike, especially with weight in the trunk, which is positioned well behind the rear axle. The extended aft portion of the bike, is also why there is so much comfort up front. A trade off to keep in mind.

Rolling on the power in twisty curves reminds me why I love to ride, and this big touring bike hugs the curves and doesn't let me down. It is also a huge upgrade from my 2000 V92C when high speed driving on the freeway. Speeds of 80-90 mph are comfortable and sustainable. The ABS brakes provide peace of mind, knowing that the stopping is as fast as gripping the lever and stepping on the pedal.

I would recommend this low center of gravity tour bike to anyone.
