2006 Suzuki Boulevard S50

Summary:

Don't buy this model Suzuki unless it's free

Faults:

During cold starts, only one cylinder fires. The choke cable isn't working on one of the carburetors. The cable is not adjustable so I'll have to "jerry rig" it somehow. A new one won't solve this problem.

I had to replace the seat with a Mustang brand. The factory seat is uncomfortable after 30 minutes and too much vibration passes through it.

The front brake pads always squealed no matter what I tried. I had to replace them with aftermarket ones I found on eBay. That cured the problem. Replacement was easy.

The front spoked wheel was wobbling. The dealer would only replace the wheel and couldn't true it. They would not honor the warranty. I had to figure out how to true it myself. After fixing the wobble, I removed the existing wheel weight which balanced the tire. That confirmed to me that this was bad from the factory.

I added an aftermarket tachometer. It's just not right to drive a high RPM motor without one.

The motor has a slight miss either from the ignition or carbs at 2,500 to 3,500 rpm's. I can't even begin to figure out what is causing this problem. I've talked with the dealer enough to know that they aren't competent to work on motorcycles.

General Comments:

The bike looks great and has good horsepower and torque. The vibration is terrible. It radiates through the seat, handle bars and foot pegs. This is a high RPM motor, not a low RPM thumper.

The transmission is rough and feels like it's trying to stick between gears. The gears always go "Ka Chunk" between shifts like they're ready to break.

The bike is very difficult to work on. The motor and accessories are compacted very tight up into the frame. Valve clearance is almost impossible to check. The carbs and air cleaners are difficult to access. Any work requires removing the seat and gas tank.

I own one also.

I would love to know where you found the tachometer. I agree, this bike should have one.

Also, if you have photos of where it is connected, I would appreciate.

Thank you.

2006 Suzuki Boulevard S50

Summary:

I feel that the S50 was the perfect choice for me

General Comments:

The S50 is extremely fun to ride. It performs great (with or without my wife as passenger), whether in the city, mountains or on the highway. It gets as much as 58 miles per gallon, but usually around 53.

I have experienced no discomfort with the seat, but my wife occasionally has.

I do have a front brake squeak. But worse, is a front end squeak, which WD40 helps to eliminate.

Summary:

Love it..

Faults:

Front brakes squeak...

General Comments:

The bike is very agile and has great acceleration. Also it's light for the smaller framed riders... Would be a great first bike or for the experienced rider. I am 5'4" and probably could not go to a bigger bike, so the S50 is a perfect size for me...

I owned the "Savage" before this (the S50's little brother), and it was a great to learn on. But upgrading to the S50 was essential, since the Savage/S40 got too small.

I love the handle bars. I have changed the exhaust since, to Cobra slip-ons, and it sounds great.

Summary:

Very nice bike

Faults:

No problems.

General Comments:

I purchased this bike a few months ago and have already put over 1000 miles on it. I just keep checking the weather to see when I can ride it again, since I got it just before the start of winter. I love riding this bike.

I will start with the things I don't like about this bike. The seat is not very comfortable.

My biggest complaint is the bike really needs a 6th gear. I hit 60 on the interstate and constantly try to up shift to a higher gear. I usually shift in 5th at about 40 mph. At sixty it is starting to rev a little like it is ready for another gear. I know this is killing my gas milage. It seems I get the best mileage around the city because I putt around. I have run several tanks through it so far and average just under 50 mpg.

OK, here's what I like about this bike.

First, I really like the looks of this bike. I has just enough chrome to really make it look good.

The second thing I like is the engine in the bike. It has good bottom, but also has good power when you need it. The engine comes on strong, but very predictable, like I would expect in a cruiser bike.

I'm short and the bike fits me real well. It's very comfortable for me and everything is right where I would expect it to be. I would have trouble riding this bike on long trips because the seat isn't comfortable for me.

I like the way the bike handles. No surprises here. It's very predictable. I haven't scraped the pegs yet, but I don't really push it that much in the curves. A friend rode my bike and he said he scraped the pegs, but he is a very aggressive rider.

I haven't had the problem with the front brake squealing like some riders. It will squeak occasionally, but not that much more than other bikes I have owned in the past. I haven't even really noticed anything about the brakes, that generally means they are doing a good job.

Overall, I really like this bike. It really suits my needs. It has plenty of power for me. It handles well. I like the way it looks. I even like the way it sounds. I believe I will hold onto this bike for a good while. I would recommend other people to ride of purchase this bike. I don't believe you will regret it in any way.
