2007 Yamaha FJR1300

Summary:

Great all around commuter and tourer!

Faults:

Unable to determine any problems with it being this new.

General Comments:

This is a very potent "super" sport touring bike. Not for the faint of heart or for newbies. Experienced riders only. I've been riding 4 years, and had a ST1300 prior to owning this one, and I'm still rattled from hard acceleration from the FJR. AMAZING! Could get someone into a lot of trouble if you're not disciplined. GREAT GREAT bike though.

Plenty of size and comfort for some distance, yet great for commuting as well.

2005 Yamaha FJR1300

Summary:

The best bike I have owned; it is smooth, fast, stylish, and reliable

Faults:

No Problems at all.

General Comments:

I had to personalize the FJR to my liking. I added a Corbin modular seat, vista cruise, Yamaha taller windshield, 2 brothers exhaust, K and N filter, Michelen Pilot Roads, heli bars. I also did a heat reduction modification to the areas behind the fairing. Before, it was too hot, now it is nice and cool.

Now the ergonomics are perfect for me. I am 5'10" 210 lbs.

Above 4500 rpm, there is a slight buzz in the seat and bars.

In all, the FJR is so much better than my 1993 Kawasaki Concours. This is by far the best motorcycle I have owned. I have owned 7 other bikes.

Question, how did you do the heat reduction modification?

2005 Yamaha FJR1300

Summary:

Lots of power for the money, but too much heat and vibration for a serious touring bike

Faults:

Excessive vibrations from 4000RPM up.

General Comments:

Very fast over 6000RPM. Pretty fast up to 6000RPM.

Annoying power plateau at 4000RPM.

Ungodly heat from the engine.

Lots of concern online about valve train issues and "ticking."

Very bad vibrations in the bars and feet, especially around 4500RPM.

Very uncomfortable seat.

Front end feels very heavy coming from a bike with USD forks and a single large disk brake.

Great bags and optional top box. But liners for the bags are soft and do not fit well in the hardbags.

Windshield buffets at all levels.

Uncomfortable seating position. Not good for sport or distance riding.

Low electrical output limits accessories.

Great lights.

Lots of fasteners and panels to remove to do basic maintanence.

Your comments on the Yamaha FJR are rather surprising. I rode a friends bike - who was on his second FJR - and found it to be incredibly smooth and powerful, with none of the vibration or power peaking that you mentioned.

At the time I rode the bike we were traveling on the May long weekend over the North Cascade Mtns. (SR20) in Washington State. It was raining heavily, so I had the opportunity to play with the windshield; only in the most upright position was I free from buffeting and wind noise, but below that the wind noise was significantly louder.

If I was taller than 6ft, then it is highly probable that the wind noise and buffeting would be constant, no matter where the windshield setting was.

Another possibility is the particular bike you rode. My friends previous FJR did have its share of problems, whereas this particular bike has been trouble free.
