2000 Honda Africa Twin XRV750 from United Kingdom

Summary:

XRV750 - two wheeled Humvee

Faults:

Flasher switch failed.

Fuel pump failed.

Engine CDI failed.

General Comments:

The Africa Twin ceased production in 2003, but they are becoming a bit of a legend. Way before the BMW GS series they were THE bike to trek around the globe on. Big and heavy, they still survived big crashes and are very reliable.

Not the most amazing performance, but 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is good enough for me, with a 115mph top speed, though cruising at 85mph is its main strength. Will give nearly 50mpg at these speeds.

Huge road presence, which even car drivers take notice of.

Will probably go on forever. 100,000 miles out of these engines without a rebuild is very common.

Would you buy another motorcycle from this manufacturer? Yes

Have to agree; superb motorcycle, have owned mine 4 years and clocked up nearly 34000 miles with no problems at all.

And it's big; you get looks everywhere you go.

Honda should never have discontinued one of their best bikes.

I agree with the above comment, and having my Africa Twin model 2001 with me here in USA - everybody has asked me that question - why did HONDA discontinue the model? With the gap in the range of models, HONDA has given the BMW GS the market.

The TransAlp has a very good reputation, as well as the Gold Wing, and as we see the market develop to more adventours bikes - HONDA must admit they have lost the name here - TYGE HANSEN, 30K Miles in USA and ASIA on the most admired bike.
