Faults:

When supporting a considerable frontal weight, the front suspension arms wear out the seals more easily, causing oil leaks.

Adjusting the play or performing specific work on the rear cylinder is complex and requires tools or skill due to its proximity to the chassis.

The massive pistons of this engine generate strong vibrations that can loosen fasteners or cause fatigue in peripheral components over the years.

Stock exhaust systems are bulky and prone to cosmetic blemishes, much like certain areas of the chassis or paintwork exposed to the elements if they haven't been well maintained.

General Comments:

This is a great V-twin muscle bike; it handles and brakes well, far better than it has any right to. Compared to the big bikes of the 80s and 90s, it’s a race replica.

It doesn't need a fairing, the riding position is great, and the seat is comfortable.

It runs well. Covers over 160 km without issues; you need to refuel before you're forced to stop. The brakes work well. Mine seems sensitive to tires; the handling was almost dangerous when I bought it with worn-out Avon tires. I adjusted the suspension to the factory settings and fitted a new set of Bridgestone T30 Evos, and that solved the problem.

The engine is large and robust, delivering impressive torque, and, with the optional Akrapovič exhausts, it sounds absolutely spectacular.

The most curious thing of all is the slow pace at which the Yamaha MT-01 builds revs. It starts at 1,500 rpm and is already at 5,000 rpm. It is agile, more so than fast, given its weight, but possesses a unique charm.

For me, this is the motorcycle every rider should aspire to own. It is everything I have ever wanted. It is not just about its stunning looks, muscular styling, imposing engine, incredible exhaust pipes and mufflers, superb build quality, the feel and sound of the 1700cc V-twin engine, or its agile, sporty handling and precision brakes; it is about how it makes you feel.

It is an experience of pure joy, encompassing every sensation you have ever known, all rolled into one.

I’ve had the bike for nearly ten years, and I’ll never sell it. It’s my only vehicle, and it handles everything, from the mundane to the extraordinary, with perfection. It’s a bike meant for enjoyment: for going fast, for pinning the throttle on empty city streets, or for tackling tight corners as if you were piloting a massive, bulldozing dragon.

It is completely different, original, and unforgettable.

Faults:

Bike recalled to replace the throttle position sensor in the fuel injection system.

Problem with a loose connection in the wiring harness.

General Comments:

This is a real twist and go motorcycle. There is so much torque, the gearbox is almost not necessary.

The motor pulls cleanly from 1200 rpm upwards, but can be a bit thirsty if pushed hard on the highway.

I use it as a commuter, and even in the heat of our summer, it seem to keep its cool.

Yamaha did a phase 1 conversion on the bike, which includes an Acropivic exhaust system. The sound is awesome, loud and deep.

It attracts a lot of attention going or standing. The styling is quite uniqe and reminds of a Blue Wildebeest, huge chest and small rear.
