1993 Yamaha XTZ660 from Greece

Summary:

Reliable, powerful and easy to maintain: Yamaha

Faults:

Carburator overflows often; I have not been able to get a decent used one in Greece, and new costs 500 Euros;

Temperature gauge does not work, I suspect there is a broken wire or contact, but haven't had the time to check.

General Comments:

This is a very nice on-off road motorcycle, with enough power and very good handling, as long as you are OK with traveling at speeds up to 120 km/h.

1994 Yamaha XTZ660 from Norway

Summary:

A very fun machine

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong with it, it just runs and runs. But due to lack of adjustment of the valves it lost a lot of power, took it in for a service and then it was OK again.

I have had some ordinary things that had to be changed. The chain and sprockets have been changed once, and the same with the battery.

General Comments:

The engine is very strong and revs up much better than the XT600, it really wants to pull up to the red line. It also has a very nice sound, even with the original exhaust.

The bike is a bit soft, so the comfort is good, but it isn't the best performer if you want sharp handling. The upright driving position is comfortable and gives you a nice view over anything except SUVs.
