"I would buy another one just like it"
What things have gone wrong with the motorcycle?
New rear tire every 5000/6000 miles.
Front tire every 15000 miles.
Throttle cable broke twice. I keep a spare one under the seat now.
Tachometer broke at 74000 miles.
New front brake pads at 60000 miles.
Broke an exhaust valve at 44000 miles.
Replaced the chain every 12000 miles.
Recovered the seat.
New spark plugs every 35000 miles.
Change oil and filter every spring.
General comments?
I bought this bike new in 1984 as a left-over model. I am the only one to ride it and work on it.
It looks like a lot of things have gone wrong, but it has over 77000 miles on it and I have ridden it every day from early May until the end of October every year since I bought it.
Most of the items have been minor and easily fixed. It does seem to be getting a little tired now. Perhaps some new rings would help.
This is one the best mannered motorcycles I have ridden. It has plenty of power to get me in and out of all kinds of trouble. It rarely does anything unexpected.
I can ride comfortably for hours.
It gets 65 miles per gallon.
Starts and runs smooth every time.
Only once has it failed to get me home.
It doesn't leak or use a drop of oil.
I do a full service and inspection every spring before riding.
