2005 BMW R 1150 GS Adventure

Summary:

Excellent all around, and will tour and commute easily

Faults:

Upper shaft minor oil seal, causing engine oil to leak down inside shaft housing and out by the rubber boot.

General Comments:

Top bike. Easy covers 6 to 800 miles in a day.

Excellent tank range for touring.

Comfort is good, but you really need to be taller than 6ft or 180 cm to probably be comfortable/secure at standstill so as to reach the ground securely (this is a very tall bike).

Handling well above average for a dual purpose (on/offroad) bike.

I recommend a screen extension such as Touratech or alike to reduce wind buffeting.

BMW original alu luggage is excellent, but hinges can break (cheap to replace though).

Starter motor replaced at 77,411 miles.

Clutch slave cylinder failed at 80,905 miles.

Main ignition coils. L/H 72,211 miles.R/H 88,166 miles.

General Comments:

This bike does it all. After just over 104,000 miles, I still enjoy this bike as much as the day I bought it new.

It is comfortable for 900 mile days, which I have done quite a few of, all for pleasure. It is tall, and the seat height may be a bit high for some.

The handling and performance are excellent for a bike of this type. I always get over 50 mpg.

The BMW top box and panniers have been excellent, easy to use with a good capacity (optional extra but worth the money). However the leaked for the first time on a recent trip in torrential rain for just over 500 miles.
