1995 Yamaha XJ900S

Summary:

Great all rounder

Faults:

Front wheel bearing at 36,000 miles.

Front fork seals at 41942 miles.

Exhaust collector box 49100 and 74154 miles.

Silencers at 67028 miles.

Battery at 7230 miles.

General Comments:

Great for touring, managed the coastline of England and Wales 3100 miles from Leicester in 2 weeks.

Great fun on mountain passes (Scotland in January!)

Numb bum after 1-2 hours, so usually stop for a break.

Great for commuting.

No chain - so no mess, easy to clean!

With side boxes and top box, works well for holidays.

MPG around 50.

Factory tyres (Dunlop) were lumpy on cornering, so I have used Michelin ever since.

Accelerates effortlessly.

1996 Yamaha XJ900S

Summary:

Great, solid, shaft driven bike

Faults:

Only problem was with luggage fitted. The front end tended to have a caster-wheel effect at about 40mph.

General Comments:

A great bike. Nearly bullet-proof. Put some Mac100s on it and it'll stick wet and dry. I even embarrassed racing snakes on it!!!

The weather protection was poor (got better waterproofs!!). Fit some luggage and it became a good tourer (see fault note).

1995 Yamaha XJ900S

Summary:

Comfy sports tourer

Faults:

Rusting around mirror mounts, mainly oxidising.

General Comments:

Comfy sports tourer.

Can be pushed in a straight line, but bit on the long side for tight cornering.
