2009 Honda FSC600 Silver Wing

Summary:

This is a great bike with super reliability and tons of storage

Faults:

None, though I replaced both tires since the rears were too worn to pass inspection.

General Comments:

Great little bike, though it's not that small. Considered a Maxi scooter, it is easy to get on, super easy to drive and has a seat low enough for just about anybody to flat foot at a light.

Fuel injected, it always starts right up, no hesitation. Pretty strong acceleration, pulls away from stoplight nicely. Lots of power going from 30 up to 60 if you have to merge onto a highway.

CVT transmission is pretty bulletproof and you never have to think about what gear you need to be in or lug the motor. Occasionally I get a bit of a buzz out of it when starting from dead stop, but that's about it.

Handling is good, probably not sport bike good, but still lots of fun. I especially like taking it on back roads going between 40-50 mph. Since it has no clutch, the left lever is a combined front and rear brake action, both are discs. Front brake is the right lever, and when using both, it stops pretty quickly.

Seat is just OK, after about an hour, my butt starts to feel it. Floorboards are very wide and long so you can position your foot all the way forward like a cruiser, or pull em back some like a standard riding position, or you can mix and match.

Good instrumentation, tons of storage under the seat, two glove boxes up front, the left is huge. Great place to stash a bag if you go through the drive through window.

Reliability is great; it's a Honda so that just comes with the territory.

2007 Honda FSC600 Silver Wing

Summary:

I love it

Faults:

I have not had any problem with this bike.

General Comments:

This bike is a joy to ride, and I use it to commute daily between two jobs. My daily mileage is about 110 miles per day.

The bike handles very well, and it has ample power to keep up with traffic on freeways. I am typically riding in traffic moving in excess of 75 mph, and the bike has more than enough power to stay at this speed and pull away if necessary.

The bike is easily adapted to long distance cruising and/or touring, and has ample power for two up riding.

I ride year round, and wish the alternator had more power in order to power heated pants, jacket liners and gloves at the same time. Presently only two items can be run without draining battery power.

2002 Honda FSC600 Silver Wing

Summary:

this is a well made value, and the transmission is automatic.

General Comments:

This bike has impressive acceleration. The CVT transmission is smooth and responsive.

I am 6' 4" tall. I tried many cruisers and touring bikes, but my knees were always up in the handlebars. This bike fits me well and sits comfortably.

I like having the built in storage under the seat. I added a top box and have lots of room for gear or purchases.

2002 Honda FSC600 Silver Wing

Summary:

Capable, comfortable and reliable

Faults:

Safety recall for rear wheel, steering stem, and center stand.

General Comments:

An amazingly competent cycle. The Silver Wing has the styling of a scooter, but the competence of a great middle weight tourer. Handling is capable and predictable, with good braking and a sprightly acceleration.

Currently, I have two other cycles; one smaller and one larger in displacement than the Silver Wing, and find myself drawn to the Silver Wing for my ride of choice. I had owned a BMW K75RT that was an excellent middleweight tourer. The Silver Wing compares very favorably. As much comfort, and almost as many amenities; the miles roll by very easily.

If I were to choose one complaint, it would be the height of the factory windscreen. After purchasing a screen that is four inches taller, I find all helmet buffeting eliminated, and wind noise greatly reduced.

Although pricey, the Silver Wing has proved its worth.
