2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100

Summary:

I would go for another one if they still made it!

Faults:

The biggest problem I have with the bike's design is the location of the front cylinder's exhaust pipe. The location of the pipe means that to do something as simple as changing your oil, the pipe must be removed. Installing a oil relocation kit (ORK) will relocate the oil filter, but this should have been done by Yamaha.

General Comments:

The bike as a whole is well balanced and nimble despite being a "Cruiser". More than able to carry two up for a couple of hundred miles.

There are a lot of aftermarket items for this bike, so that it can be tailored to almost any individual.

2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100

Summary:

Excellent value and reliable

Faults:

No mechanical problems at all. Extremely reliable, starts first go, runs smoothly.

General Comments:

Wonderful motorcycle, good quality off the showroom floor.

Lots of accessories.

Vibrates in 5th at high speed - need to add performance exhaust and air system to boost performance.

Stock seat is too padded - get a custom seat for better 'feel'.

Reliable, power when you need it. Great all round cruiser.

2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100

Summary:

Disappointed

Faults:

Exhaust blued, and I was told by dealer that it was due to me leaving choke on too long and fouled one of the plugs.

Also the bike has been cutting out on me when I downshift when coming to a stop.

General Comments:

Overall I am happy with bike; just issues that have arisen that leave me wondering about Yamaha's reliability.

Pipes turn blue if run too hot. The engine gets too hot when run lean, either by the mixture being set too lean at the carburetor or by having the choke out too long (usually 30-60 sec is sufficient). There are several products that help restore the finish.

Stalling while decelerating is usually the idle speed being too low, another simple carburetor setting.

I hate that you've had troubles. Enjoy riding.

2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100

Summary:

It is a piece of japanese crap

Faults:

At 1300 miles the engine and transmission over heated and turned the pipes glowing red. Now the bike is non movable.

Starting issues since that happened; one thing lead to another.

General Comments:

Looks good and sounds good with the price at the dealership. But any after market stuff you want to add; prepare to rob a bank to buy them.

Did you have the oil changed after 600 miles or so? The oil they put in those bikes when you buy them is not designed to be used for longer than that. At the first oil change they put in regular oil for the bike.

I have a 2007 1100 Custom with 1,000 miles on it and I have yet to have any problems with it. I did do the first service at 600 miles. Great bike.
