2007 Yamaha V-Star Classic 650 from United States of America

Summary:

It's a very satisfactory bike overall

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong - most reliable.

General Comments:

I have been most pleased with my bike.

I haven't owned a motorcycle for 17 years, and that was a dual sport.

It's been a great ride, and looks pretty sexy to boot. Even after riding my son's Honda VTX 1800, (monster bike!) I very much enjoy gettin' on my scoot and going anywhere I want in style and comfort (and that's important to this 54 year old - and I'm 6'4"/210 lbs.

Overall, I wasn't pleased with the dealerships service dept., but found a small shop that has done a fabulous job with all my scheduled service, at about 1/2 the cost, and my sons also get all their motorcycle work done there, as well.

The only negative I see is that I wish there was on more gear in the transmission.

2007 Yamaha V-Star Classic 650 from United States of America

Summary:

Solid smaller CC bike with great looks and rideability

Faults:

The only problem I have noticed is an insistent high pitched rattle coming from left side of engine at speeds from 55mph and above. This can be very annoying. I just dropped it off for its break-in service and I will see if the noise has been resolved.

General Comments:

The bike is exactly what I was looking for. Great ride and rider comfort. The bike has a very solid feel.

The handling is very good, but be careful with really getting low in the corners, it will drag the running boards. Just remember, it's not a sport bike and you'll be fine.

The power and feel of the engine performance is very reminiscent of the the old British twins I grew up with. Not a power house, but very responsive. I do wish it had one more gear. This would make higher speed highway cruising less hand numbing.

Very important to my reason for purchase was MPG. After break-in mileage, it comes in around 45MPG city and 51MPG highway. Great!!!

2007 Yamaha V-Star Classic 650 from United States of America

Summary:

Best buy in its class

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this bike. Took it in for the recommended 600 mile service.

General Comments:

I really enjoy riding this bike. I use it for commuting to work five days a week, and pleasure riding on my days off.

I would buy this bike again, except I would choose the Silverado version. I ended up adding everything that comes stock on the Silverado, and spending more in the long run.

2007 Yamaha V-Star Classic 650 from United States of America

Summary:

Beautiful bike that gets looks and comments from many

Faults:

None, the bike has been flawless!

General Comments:

This is my sixth street bike, first cruiser style. The feel is different, more laid back and for passengers is a great bike. I added the passenger floor boards and the sissy bar for wife and 9 year-old son to have more comfort when they come along for a cruise.

Color and styling - I get lots of people walking up to me and saying that the bike is very pretty and shiny. The candy apple red with all the chrome makes the bike stand out. Since this is a V-Twin you get the normal rumble and slight vibration that smooths out (certain rpm's you get resonance with any engine, but more noticeable on v-twin's).

Size - Almost everyone that sees the bike does not believe it is only a 650cc. Like others many think that it is 1100+cc.

The larger look and 4.2 gallon tank helps add to the weight and lower center of gravity, so the bike handles very well. I am 180# and wife is 115#, and when riding two-up the bike seems fine even at 70 mph, though like others say the bike is slower passing once you get over 60 mph.

Air cooled - Since the bike is air cooled rather than liquid, the bike is a little cold blooded in the lower temps. I notice that the bike takes longer to "act" like it is warmed up, even if the engine is hot on cool mornings. When riding below 45 deg at stop lights, a "pop" of the throttle before taking off allows for a smoother take off until the bike is fully warm (not just the cylinders/exhaust).

Wanted Items - Since I rode other cycles than cruiser style, I am not use to the lack of tachometer, I really wish they would have had a small tach and fuel gauge along with the Speedo on the tank. Another item I miss is a clock, I added a clock between the handle-bar mounts. Maybe Yamaha will make a better instrument cluster in future models.
