Natali - that is not normal (unless you've got REALLY bad clutch control, which is unlikely). You should be able to start off from a stop at relatively low RPM (2.5k-3.5k) in first gear. Not sure what's wrong, but I'd be a little afraid to launch at 7k RPM in fear of doing a wheelie right off the line! Ha ha.

I didn't realize there were so many RD enthusiasts! (especially with '75 RD250s!). I'm hoping one of you not only sees this message (old thread), but may be able to help me track down a fuel tank for my '75 RD250. I am trying to make it as nice as possible using unrestored, original parts because it only has 525 original miles. The tank that is on it is actually in pretty amazing shape (inside is perfect) with the exception of a small dent where a stone came up on the highway and made a dent on the leading end and a rust stain blemish on the top in front of the fuel cap (right on the WHITE area... Ugh...) When it sat in a shed for 30+ years, something dripped on it that migrated into the paint. I've been looking to replace the tank with something as nice as I can find (cosmetically) without having to have paint work done and compromise the originality of the part.

Thoughts? Thank you & safe riding!

I think your low speed jets in the carbs are clogged for sure.

Very common.
