No faults at all, still runs great.
The 1998 Honda CBR F3 600cc is one of the greatest bikes of that year. Even after the 7th birthday of the bike it runs great. The bike is solid and runs very strong. I usually keeps up with all the late models of the same power. I will most likely will alway buy Honda manufactured motorcycles.
All it actually needs after being stock is an after market exhaust (in my case a Carbon Fiber Two Brother racing exhaust) and a windscreen, if possible a double bubble type. Your bike will look and sound good at the same time.
In July 2005 I purchased a used 98 F3 for my son. I was worried buying it, thinking there might be something wrong with it. He rode it long and hard with no problems. It's a great bike, smooth and easy to ride. I had 2 different Honda mechanics tell me the F3 was the best model Honda made, telling me this bike is better than the newer models.
I bought my F3 new in 1998, it is by far the best all round bike I have ever owned (and I've had 16 bikes). It still looks as sharp as the current breed, comfortable and still able to mix it with the "other" newbies.
It has three weaknesses: Regulator, cam chain tensioner and front wheel bearings. However all three can be fixed, and from then on it should last. Regulator should be replaced with a heavy duty item. OK, that said, it's been faultless (it's still running on the original battery), If and when it does die, I will be buying another Honda.
I purchased my 95 CBR 600 F3 with 20K miles on it as my first bike. I have no problems with the bike at all. It now has 35K+, and still runs strong and keeps up with the newer bikes.
The bike is still stock with the exception of a D&D exhaust, which makes the bike sounds good. The other plus about it, is that it doesn't have a huge argressive stance like the new ones have.
I still get compliments on it from everyone and offers to buy it. I love the bike and love the way Honda manufactured it. No complaints and would recommend it to anyone learning or experienced.
I bought a leftover '98 CBR600F3 in 1999 after my '97 F3 was totaled in an accident. I've ridden over 25K+ on both bikes and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood).
Only costs have been to replace standard wear items such as brakes, tires, filters, etc. Still running on original battery. Bike is completely stock and can run with the Big Dogs.
The only problem I foresee is the difficulty in letting go of it at some point (My wife doesn't like to ride on the back, so I'll need to convert to a passenger-friendly model). I recommend this bike thoroughly and completely!
I bought my F3 last summer, about a year ago, with 14000 miles on it.
The person before me dropped it like 3 or 4 times. It had bent forks and the chain was worn beyond how worn a chain should ever go. It needed tires and new plastics.
I drove it home from Texas to Oklahoma City with no problems. Now it has almost 27000 miles, and I'm almost done making my F3 that way it should be.
The only problems I had with it besides fixing what was broken or bent or whatever from the previous owner, was I replaced the battery and I broke my vortex sprocket this morning, and brake pads and tires.
I replaced the plugs just for maintenance and oil changes with Castrol act-evo.
Other than that, the bike is great. I love this bike, and if anyone has a chance to buy one, get it!
A good learner bike and a good commuter bike. I'm getting about 33mpg with -1/+2 sprockets and a K&N and a slip on. So it's a good bike!
Buy one! And don't treat them like crap! Honda did an amazing job with this bike, and the only reason I would sell it is if I had to, or if I totaled it, but I would buy it back and make a track bike.

I bought my 1998 model Honda CBR 600 F3 after moving here to Egypt in early 2004. One look and I knew this was the bike for me. I had it equipped with a Micron racing exhaust that spits out flames when revved to high RPM's while in neutral.
This bikes riding position is awesome considering how fast and fierce it can be. This is possibly the best CBR ever that Honda has manufactured. The color of mine is Black on dark Orange/Tan, it is a real head turner with those colors and the sound of its hyper exhaust.
Recently though I have gotten married, and had a kid with my wife, and my entire family want me to either stop riding it or sell it. Parts are so hard to find here, so I always have to use mail order and it is costly. The repairs I have made show just how resilient this bike really is, and what a mechanical masterpiece it is as well.
It's so hard to say good-bye indeed. Even the only bike that slightly grabbed my attention, the 2003 CBR 954 RR, can't really fill the void of not having my trusty CBR 600 F3. I don't know if I will be able to get myself to sell it.
I have 3 honda CBR600's. One is an F2 and I have 2 F3 models. My favorite is a tricked out Castrol Racing replica with harris tank, 2 piece race fairing, 1 piece back end and a high level race can and loads of carbon fibre bits. I have upgraded the brakes with Goodridge hoses, and it's the best 600F3 I've ever seen or ridden.. I am a total enthusiast for Honda CBR600F3's.
