What's the highest mileage anyone's got out of a T80? I am enjoying my P reg at only 13000 miles, wondering how many years I will enjoy the economy and ride etc. It was fabulous getting round the queues after the floods in Sheffield when many roads were closed. The poor old car was stuck in traffic next to the river Don and then abandoned (luckily not waterlogged). I visit secondary schools and teenagers don't "diss" the bike, but normally say why don't I get something more modern. No chance!

I am now on holiday from work, so I am taking the opportunity to service my T80. I have the seat and mud guards off. I have sanded down, then blue Hammerited my petrol tank and front forks, but only where it is stone chipped or rusty. It looks like hell because the frame is black, but I could not care less.

I also have the carburetor off, a new needle and float assy installed, and it is currently soaking in a sink of petrol.

I am also replacing all rubber tyres, and overhauling the front brake.

I shall also be treating it to a new battery, so for about 120 quid, I will have renewed this bike!

Help! My baby the T80 needs a new swing arm. I'm in Bermuda and desperately need a new one because the old is completely rusted. email pross@bsg.bm if you have a source for parts. I would hate to put her down; she's reliable and I haven't been caught speeding for years!!!

Well my T80 has done 20 odd thousand miles. I need a new back wheel.

I take mine over fields; it's OK, but a bit slow on grass and that you can have a laugh with it.

If anyone has got back wheels in the London area, contact me at freddie_king2004@hotmail.com

Hi, I have a 1987 T80 and it is absolutely brilliant! I am a gardener (female) and I carry all my tools in the original panniers. Chain saw and all. I have done 2000 miles in three months and most of that up and down bumpy, hilly country roads. I get a real kick weaving in and out of traffic loaded up with my tools. That wipes the smile of the smug car driver's faces. I must admit it isn't inconspicuous though.

I agree that the indicators are dim, especially on a bright day, and the lights are not great in the pitch black at night round my way.

I think I might need new rear shocks soon as it bounces a little disconcertingly.

Does anyone know the top speed the T80 does as my speedo is a little out. It reads 53mph, but we reckon it is nearer 55-60mph.

115 miles? Wow, this brings back memories! My first bike was a Townmate back in '88; bought that and a Jack Mix '88 LP on the same day and felt very big and clever.

I wrecked it within 18 months by crashing repeatedly into just about anything and everything in range. I used to do Pompey to Brighton daily on it, and even rode to Lands End and back after a mate bet it wouldn't make it. I looked him in the eye and set off right there and then, didn't even finish my pint!

I lived on that thing, it went everywhere. Took it on the M25 once at 48.5mph and blurred vision for a dozen miles after a wrong turn on the way to the Smoke.

Dead easy to fix/hack/bend back into shape etc. Got almost 180 mpg on one run at a steady 30mph just to see if it would reach the magic 1 penny per mile running costs!

It went commuting to work and college, carrying 3 mates back from the pub, all around the south east and up to Brum a few times, even scrambling on a Sunday although it did fall apart after one whoop went a bit too high (back wheel collapsed, suspension studs broke off and the exhaust snapped in two).

All in all, a great giggle, and only a bicycle was cheaper.

Well guys, I love my Townmate since I brought it 3 months ago! Well it only had 2 owners from new and has 31000 miles on the clock!! And it's still running fine.

Andy.

I bought a Yamaha Townmate for £40; it is a great little machine. I use it as a field bike (it's great fun).

Dose anyone know if there any races for Townmates in East Anglia?

Had my T80 for about 18 months now. Love hacking through rush hour traffic, and diving into roundabouts grinding the pegs out.

I do prefer it to the C90, but as regards the gearbox, my clutch seems to slip a bit when I'm upshifting; does this happen to anyone else?

Also, has anyone got tips for power gains out of the little beast? Mine will do 48, but takes an age to get there, and sounds like it wants to explode!

My T80 has no problems shifting gear, but I don't know about how to get more power.

Well, guys I am from Greece and I have a T80. My first gear is broken down and I do not know what to do? This is a problem with the T80 isn't?

The T80 does have gearbox problems. Usually the left hand output shaft bearing wears out causing a deep rumble. In bad cases, this may lead to gear selection problems.

Just got myself a Townmate; so far so good, started up with a couple of kicks after standing all winter in a friend's back garden. Needs a good clean and wire brush on the swinging arm and paint. I might be tempted to strip and can spray the T80, as I think the colour lets it down.

Looking forward to good summer so I can really go to work and treat the bike.

Glyn.

Hi, bought two townies for £100. One I took apart and ferreted away round the garage, and the second one has just passed it's second MOT.

Love the guy's comments of 4g in the bank his wife knows nothing about LOL!
