1991 Honda CBR1000F from Spain - Comments

I used to ride nearly 20 years ago and saw a 92 model the other day which has made me wonder about buying it, I need something for work which is about a 70 mile roundtrip.

Do people think a CBR 1000 F would be a reasonable purchase or not a good idea for a returning old biker?

I've also a seemingly stupid question I'd like to ask: Do any of you leave your bike outside, ie at the mercy of the heavens and so on?

Despite my best efforts I can't find anywhere that'd let me leave it under cover, it's gone a bit like this:

Me and bloke looking at empty space in a communal garage and he, straight faced, turning to me and saying:

'Nah, no space sorry mate, and no parking spots going either') so I'm stuck with leaving it outside, theft I'll accept as going with the territory but I'd like to think the Honda would last the winter etc, at least as well as any other?

I know it's silly but my old XJ seemed to survive OK-ish over 4 years, was a shaftie and back in the early 90s though.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I bought my 1993 CBR1000F new; circumstances kept her in the back of the garage for all but 1,675 miles. I brought her back to the dealership for a full run through and had to replace the tank since she was sitting so long (corrosion). Just picked her up yesterday -- WOW! I simply forgot how much fun it is to right this amazing machine. It's like new with only 1,700 miles and I'm having a blast riding again. Can't say enough about this machine.

Have just purchased a trade in CBR1000F from a dealer who sold it to me trade for £1000... he's my brother. I've had a Hyabusa, 1200 Bandit, GSX 1400... a lot of big powerful bikes.

This bike is so far the most fun I've had since the late 70's.

Other comments say that the bike is very forgiving, I completely agree. I took it out yesterday, and at 120mph it was like doing 70 behind the screen. What a fantastic bike.. Got a noise from the top end mind..

I live in South Australia and have owned a 1991 CBR100F Super Sports for about a year now with only 30,000 on the clock.

Has anyone out there put a cam in these bikes, as I am looking to do it shortly, and would appreciate any feedback I can get?

I see from some of these previous posts that people are saying they are pretty quick, but I tend to disagree, as I seem to get blown off the road by just about everything that is 1990's up (yes, I know it is only classed as a tourer).

I have to admit these bikes are one comfortable tourer, which is why I am thinking of doing her up a little.

My brother has a 2001 Yamaha R1, which has been bored out e.t.c. and it is absolutely terrible, compared to my bike; it is like a 50cc scooter versus a 1000cc bike. But saying that, it is the most uncomfortable ride out, around corners you just can't fault it, but on a long distance my CBR1000F is just some much more comfortable, and seems to sit to the road better, especially as previously said when the wind picks up in Aus, you need something with a bit of weight just to stop that bloody wind factor.

Anyway, I have ridden most new bikes that will blow my CBR1000F of the road, but none of them feel anywhere near as comfortable to ride though.

So if anyone has cammed or big bore kitted a CBR 1000F, I would like to know what sort of difference it made in power, take off e.t.c.
